Nuneaton Writers' Circle: Poetry Competition

The competition in 2012 revealed some very talented poets in our group. There were 14 entries into the competition in all and every one was excellent.
The winner of this year's competition does not want to post here as she is working on compiling a collection of her work. Watch out for the title of her anthology, which I will post when it is available!

Gurgaon

Fulvio Brigante Colonna

My first India

are the alleys of Gurgaon

crawling with distant lives.

Here all is accidental,

dusty, cast-off and lean:

beasts stolid, youths

squatting, unsteady ceilings

cast over thickets of sticks.

Only the women pass by,

colourful, otherworldly

and the majestic Banyan waits.

And, along the street wall

they placed a frail lattice

for the mute presence

wrapped in grey muslin.

Rushing by, I glimpse it,

just - and it stays with me,

like a timeless word, unsaid.
